Estrella Media Launches “Unidos Contigo” Community Initiative to Address COVID-19 Vaccine Awareness and Food Insecurity

BURBANK, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Estrella Media, a leading vertically integrated, multi-platform, Spanish-language media company announced today that it is launching “Unidos Contigo,” a new community initiative aimed at supporting nonprofit organizations in the fight against COVID-19 and food insecurity in Latino communities.

“Unidos Contigo” will use Estrella Media’s influential media platforms to support Feeding America® and various Southern California nonprofits that are servicing the Latino community and addressing pressing needs in the areas of COVID-19 testing and vaccination awareness, as well as emergency food assistance.

“Our main objective with this initiative is to provide much needed in-language information and resources to the Latino communities we serve across the U.S. During these difficult times, we want to help raise awareness for nonprofit organizations that are providing vital services by amplifying their messages. Through Estrella Media’s radio, television and digital platforms, we can help these organizations doing the hands-on work with our communities,” said Peter Markham, CEO, Estrella Media.

As part of this effort, Estrella Media will also promote COVID-19 education and vaccination awareness in a new special section for “Unidos Contigo” on its various web sites. The site will provide links to the State of California’s Vaccinate All 58 web site, which offers the most up to date Spanish-language information on vaccine sites and qualifications, as well as the CDC’s COVID-19 vaccination information web site.

To kick off this community initiative nationally, Estrella Media will be a media partner of Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States. Through a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, the organization helps provide meals to more than 40 million people each year. Feeding America also supports programs that prevent food waste and improve food security among the people they serve; educates the public about the problem of hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. As part of this collaboration, Estrella Media properties around the country will partner with Feeding America member food banks, such as Feeding South Florida and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, to support their work through PSAs, news coverage and other awareness campaign opportunities.

In Southern California, Estrella Media is partnering with the Power of One Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on fighting hunger and poverty. The organization provides emergency food assistance and vital resources to vulnerable communities and individuals in Orange County, Los Angeles County, and beyond. The foundation’s purpose is to empower residents in underserved communities to become leaders in their communities. Estrella Media will support Power of One as its official Spanish-language media partner. The company will promote the nonprofit organization across its multiplatform media properties, as well as co-sponsor food drives and other initiatives.

Estrella Media will also partner with Saint Anthony Medical Centers (SAMC), a group of community clinics in Los Angeles County that offer comprehensive health care services to underserved communities in four locations: Pico, Imperial, Hollywood and Compton. The organization focuses on assisting the underprivileged, disadvantaged, under-insured and uninsured population in the greater Los Angeles area. SAMC’s four facilities offer medical, dental, psychological, preventive care, counseling, and education. SAMC is offering free COVID-19 testing and vaccines for qualified tiers in the community. Estrella Media will provide media awareness for the organization on its various media platforms and work with the organization in co-hosting free health screening events and COVID-19 testing and vaccination awareness for residents in Los Angeles County.

In the area of food insecurity in Los Angeles, Estrella Media will also support the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank as a media partner and will amplify the organization’s community outreach and fundraising efforts through its “Unidos Contigo” web site, as well as its various media platforms, including social media. Estrella Media will also offer additional support in co-hosted community events and employee volunteer opportunities. The Los Angeles Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America Network, serves more than 900,000 people every month. Approximately one-quarter of their food distribution goes to children, and roughly one-fifth ends up in the hands of older adults. The Food Bank collects food from hundreds of sources. With the help of 15,000 volunteers and a network of more than 700 Partner Agencies, the Food Bank provided more than 174 million pounds of food in 2020 – enough for 143 million meals.
