3.5 quake 15 Apr 9:09 pm (GMT -7)
The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.5 quake in the United States near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Thursday 15 April 2021 at 9:09 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10.9 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ferndale (pop. 1,400) located 15 miles from the epicenter, Rio Dell (pop. 3,400) 18 miles away, Fortuna (pop. 12,000) 19 miles away, Humboldt Hill (pop. 3,400) 26 miles away, Pine Hills (pop. 3,100) 27 miles away, and Eureka (pop. 27,000) 31 miles away. In Bayside (pop. 17,100, 36 miles away), Arcata (pop. 17,800, 37 miles away), and McKinleyville (pop. 15,200, 41 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
