An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred only 17 minutes ago 11 miles northwest of Snyder, Texas, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2.2 miles beneath the epicenter near Snyder, Scurry County, Texas, USA, early afternoon on Sunday 18 April 2021 at 3:54 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Snyder (pop. 11,800) located 11 miles from the epicenter. In Post (pop. 5,300, 31 miles away), Colorado City (pop. 4,100, 34 miles away), and Sweetwater (pop. 10,800, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
