What are the biggest sports in Asia?

Sport is incredibly popular across the continent of Asia, with many enjoying the various sports that are available.

Due to the sheer diversity that Asia provides, there are plenty of different sports that could be considered to be amongst the most popular, especially amongst those sports betting fans who continue to use asiabet8888.com to further enhance their overall experiences with the best offers and odds possible.

With so many different sports having a significant level of popularity, here are just some of the biggest sports that continue to attract a large number of fans from the continent.

Football

Whilst football is considered one of the biggest sports in the world, it is certainly helped by the fanbase that it has in Asia, despite arguably not being the biggest in a number of the larger countries.

The sport has a number of professional leagues across the continent, with countries such as China and Japan having invested heavily in the sport in recent years to try and further enhance the appeal that it has.

There have been a number of tournaments to have taken place, such as the 2002 FIFA World Cup – whilst China, Japan, South Korea and North Korea have all competed in recent editions, whilst there are regular pre-season Premier League Asia Trophy competitions and the AFC Champions League featuring some of the best football clubs from the continent, thus showing how popular it is.

Basketball

Basketball might have a big influence in the United States of America and Europe, however it could be argued it is just as popular in a number of different Asian countries.

The region has been represented in a number of different global competitions that have been held by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), with China, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan having each been strong contenders in previous competitions.

The FIBA World Cup has been held numerous times in the region, as well, whilst the upcoming 2023 edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. In fact, basketball is the most popular sport in the Philippines, after having been brought over by the Americans in the 1910s.

Baseball

Although this might be solely down to Japan, the sport of baseball has become incredibly popular in Asia. It is so popular, that it is considered to be a national sport and one that challenges the world-renowned Major League Baseball (MLB) competition from America.

The Nippon Professional Baseball league is regarded as one of the best in the world, whilst the Japanese take it seriously at all levels; professional and amateur, with thousands attending and millions watching the matches on TV.

Olympic Games

Olympic Games such as badminton and table tennis have proven to be incredibly popular with sports fans in Asia, although that could be down to its historic roots.

Table tennis was the only sport to be played in China for a number of years, and it quickly became a popular sport as it was inexpensive to play and rather easy to follow. It is believed over 300 million Chinese people tuned into the Men’s Singles Olympic Gold medal match that featured two Chinese players.

Cricket

Let’s not forget, when talking about Asia, there is also Southern Asia to consider and the sport of cricket. The sport is incredibly popular in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The matches between India and Pakistan are some of the most-heated rivalries around and can produce some of the best cricketing action to be witnessed. Millions of people within the nation continue to watch these matchups, whilst the emergence of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League should further highlight just how popular the sport is within the region.
